Cold water is often where it begins. But Icebreakers is about much more than getting in the water. We bring men together in nature, and together we face challenges. Not to fix ourselves — but to stay connected, grounded and well.
"Some men arrive carrying a lot. Others just want to stay sharp and on top of their mental health. Either way, you don't do it alone."
Every session follows a loose rhythm. The order can vary — but these four things always happen.
Turn up — no sign-up, no booking, just show up. Meet the group, get changed, say hello. The chapter lead will welcome you and make sure you know what to expect. First timers are always looked after.
Before the dip, we often do some light movement and breathwork to prepare the body and mind. Nothing strenuous — a walk, some stretching, a moment of intentional breathing. It makes the cold easier and the experience richer.
We get in together. Rivers, lakes, the sea — whatever the location offers. You go at your own pace. No pressure to stay in longer than you want. The cold is the catalyst — something happens when you share that experience with other men.
After the dip, we warm up together — around a fire, in a sauna or with hot drinks. This is where the real conversations happen. Honest, unhurried and without agenda. You'd be surprised what men share when the formality drops away.
Each of these elements matters on its own. Together, they make something that's hard to describe until you've experienced it.
Cold water immersion has well-documented effects on mood, focus and stress. But beyond the science — it's transformative in the moment. Stepping into cold water with other men, together, does something to you.
We walk, breathe and spend time outdoors. Being in nature alongside other men — away from screens, pressure and performance — has a restorative quality that's real and tangible.
The sauna. The campfire. The hot flask after a cold dip. Warming up together is where conversations happen that wouldn't happen anywhere else. Honest, unhurried and real.
Not a group chat. Not a therapy group. A community of men who show up week after week — for themselves and for each other. No judgment, no hierarchy. Just presence.
There's no booking, no sign-up form and no membership. Just find your nearest chapter, check the day and time, and show up. The chapter lead will be there and will welcome you.
Swim shorts or trunks, a towel (a dry robe is ideal if you have one), warm clothes to change into and something waterproof for your feet. A flask of something hot is always appreciated. No wetsuit needed.
Aim to arrive 10 minutes before the listed time to meet the group, get your bearings and get changed without rushing. Most sessions last 60–90 minutes in total.
Cold — genuinely cold. UK wild water ranges from around 4°C in winter to 18°C in late summer. We build exposure gradually, and nobody is pushed beyond what they're comfortable with. Your body adapts over time.
Not at all. Many men come for weeks before they open up about anything. There's zero pressure to share anything. You're welcome to just get in, warm up and listen. The community does the rest.
Yes. Completely free — no membership, no drop-in fee, no hidden costs. Icebreakers sessions will always be free. That's a core part of what we are and what we stand for.

I came to my first session at a really low point. Didn't say much, just got in the water. Something about being freezing alongside other lads who were doing the same — it cracked something open. I've been going every Sunday since.
I was properly sceptical. Five minutes after my first dip, sat around a fire with seven blokes I'd never met, I got it. The cold water strips away all the usual nonsense and you're just real with each other.
The cold is the hook but the community is the thing. I've made proper mates here — the kind you don't usually make as an adult. It sounds simple but it genuinely changed things for me.
